Women Tea Workers in Assam
Across Assam's lush tea gardens, thousands of women sustain India's vibrant tea industry – they are skilled, dedicated and essential to its success. Yet, when it comes to accessing government entitlements and welfare schemes, these women often face invisible walls.
In 2023, ETP's comprehensive Policy and Regulatory Review revealed a sobering gap: while numerous government social protection schemes exist, most tea workers – especially women – struggle to access them.

Udayini - Women in Leadership
ETP launched Udayini – Women in Leadership (WiL), an initiative supported by The Republic of Tea, designed to nurture women's leadership in tea estates. Piloted in Dirial and Dirok estates in Assam.
Through close engagement with women workers and adolescent girls, one message was clear: access to digital tools can be transformational – if those tools are designed with users in mind.
Out of these insights came Unnatea – ETP's first-of-its-kind digital application designed to make social protection accessible, practical, and empowering.
